DigiPass project is pioneering the integration of Organic Photovoltaics (OPVs) into the Digital Materials & Product Passport (DMPP) framework. OPVs offer a lightweight, flexible, semi-transparent and sustainable alternative to traditional photovoltaics, enabling innovative energy solutions for smart buildings, green houses, mobility, and off-grid applications. However, ensuring their efficient recycling and circular economy integration remains a key challenge due to their multilayered composition and material diversity.

Case study 3 focuses on creating an inventory of OPV materials data and developing standardized methodologies to enhance recyclability, traceability, and lifecycle assessment. By harmonizing materials characterization, fabrication data, and end-of-life processing, this initiative will enable better material recovery strategies and reduced environmental impact. Through this effort, DigiPass is setting a benchmark for data-driven, sustainable OPV innovation, fully aligned with the EU’s Green Deal and circular economy goals.
