Material development

Material development and specimen production

Flowchart

The idea is to gain control over the degradation behaviour of binary Mg-Ag, Mg-Gd and ternary Mg-Ag-Gd alloys by adjusting the amount of alloying elements, process parameters and post-production treatments.
The specimens are produced in the form of discs/rods/wires and characterized for microstructure, material properties and degradation behaviour. Specimens in form of rods will be sent to Russia for ECAP process (nano-structuring).

Porous samples:
Powder metallurgy (PM) is the best way to produce porous samples. The metal powders are produced by gas atomization of the cast ingots. PM processes include conventional pressing and sintering and Metal Injection Moulding (MIM). Space holders are used to produce porous samples. The size and type of pores can be varied by varying the amount and particle size of space holder material. Porous specimens will be used as drug delivery devices.
