AkzoNobel Meeting

AkzoNobelTreffen16zu9

AkzoNobelTreffen

On March 10, 2022, an on-side demonstration visit of VIPCOAT translation team had been conducted at the AkzoNobel facilities in Sassenheim, Netherlands. Beside various AKZO representatives, the VIPCOAT consortium had been represented by the coordinator (Natalia Konchakova, Hereon), the WP2 work package leader (Peter Klein, Fraunhofer) and the WP1 work package leader (Heinz Preisig, NTNU).

During the visit Peter Visser (AkzoNobel) demonstrated and explained the basic steps of the development and production of coating formulations and how AkzoNobel assesses their performance using physical testing methods and corrosion tests such as the Neutral Salt Spray test. The team visited the R&D laboratories and the analytical and physical testing services at AkzoNobel Sassenheim.
The results of the visit will facilitate the translation and modeling activity of the project and contribute essentially to domain-specific-ontology creation and developments.

On March 31, Can Özkan (TU Delft) presented the results of scientific collaboration of TU Delft and Hereon at
12th International Workshop on Application of Electrochemical Techniques to Organic Coatings. The talk “Towards linking electrochemical and machine learning based assessment of corrosion inhibitor efficiency” demonstrated the research focus and novel active corrosion protection development approaches of the VIPCOAT project. Effective cooperation of the consortium partners led to successful first results, displaying the applications of advanced experimental electrochemical methods and their connection to the state-of-the-art machine learning modeling approaches.
