Dr. Peter Klein - Fraunhofer ITWM

Dr. Peter Klein (Fraunhofer ITWM)

What is your background?
By training, I am a physicist and I did my PhD on approximate quantum mechanical modelling of effects in photovoltaics. At the ITWM, I worked on many different projects, usually in the broad area of integrating materials modelling in answers to industrial relevant challenges.

What is your part within VIPCOAT?
In VIPCOAT, the ITWM is responsible for a new way to integrate multi-disciplinary optimization in distributed production chains and to set up a new supporting tool facilitating collaborative innovation in a win-win serious game.

Why do you think that VIPCOAT is an important project?
VIPCOAT paves the way to active protective coatings beyond the initial scope of aerospace applications. In particular, we already now to think on ways to transfer the VIPCOAT platform to off-shore applications.

Where does your fascination about coatings come from?
Surface and interface related phenomena in general are fascinating me since my PhD.
