Visit from German experts performing field trips and workshops with Agrosavia
Visitors at La Libertad Research Center of the Colombian Corporation for Agricultural Research.
On February 6 and 7, Agrosavia's La Libertad Research Center hosted a workshop focused on identifying and characterizing microorganisms that degrade agricultural residues, bringing together experts and practitioners. The event drew 32 participants, including students and professors from Universidad de los Llanos, technical assistants, government officials, and farmers.
Attendees benefited from master classes by Dr. Natalia Tarazona from Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Professor Felipe Salcedo, and his PhD student Yina Ortega from Universidad de los Andes, along with Dr. Lorena Castro and Dr. Carol Amaya from Agrosavia. These sessions covered both theoretical insights and practical applications.
Agrosavia researchers Liz Uribe, Cindy Mejia, Lorena Garcia, and Ivette Cabrales guided participants through laboratory methodologies, demonstrating techniques for isolating, conserving, and characterizing the enzymatic capacities of microorganisms found in agricultural residues.
The workshop extended into February 8 and 9, featuring interactions with Dr. Paul Eslem from Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon Institute. Dr. Eslem shared his expertise in identifying plastics and their by-products using LC-MS, further enriching the participants' understanding of material degradation.
