Water on the East Frisian Coasts

Tailored climate services for adaptation

On the German North Sea coast, the protection against natural hazards has always played a key role. But what will happen with climate change? Which scenarios are possible and what happens if several extreme events such as storm surges, inland flooding, and heavy rainfall occur simultaneously? What impact will such events have on the islands and coastal defenses, inland drainage, or freshwater supply and therefore on the lives of residents? And what measures can be taken ahead?

Together with our partners in the region, we investigate how the coastal region can be sustainably protected against such compound events and climate change.
